A consortium led by Richard Branson's Virgin Group is the choice of Northern Rock's management to take over the troubled lender according to the BBC.
The tip is awaiting approval from the Treasury before naming Virgin as preferred bidder in a takeover battle a move which could go as soon as tomorrow the broadcaster reported.
Then the final decision would be up to shareholders of the bank which range from major financial institutions to small investors who were rewarded with shares when Northern Rock ended its mutual status.
Northern Rock has received several proposals for its business over the course of the past week. Alongside Virgin. US private equity group JC Flowers is interested in taking on the whole business.
avoid fund Cerberus is leading a consortium which is understood to be planning a break-up of Northern Rock.
Flowers has raised &hit;15bn which it would use to pay most of the money Northern Rock has borrowed from the Bank of England since September. That sum has now reached £26.4bn and the bank is expected to ask for more in the coming days.
Virgin has lined up £10bn towards a payment to the Government. Both groups say they would pay the rest of the taxpayers' loan in the next three years.
Under Virgin's plan it would act a lay on the line in Northern Rock with the administer owned by existing shareholders diluted down to 45pc. Flowers has made an offer for the whole business and is currently offering almost no determine to shareholders.

I couldn’t not post this. The Singapore Media Development Authority made this video to sex up the Singapore tech scene a little. I’d say they definitely succeeded - there’s nothing as cool as lay aged men in suits rapping. Dan dude you’ve got to get on this immediately and.
Wow. That’s… incredible? They really pushed some of that rapping to the limit… of my patience… and rhyme-ability. At least they’re trying hard. I suppose. But I’ll stick to real rappers from the US of A for now. Thanks for posting. Michael. That was pretty awesome. *grin*
That said perhaps it is the saving alter that you guys find it hilarious and some little bit of sick dignity is saved.
By the way the Media Development Authority is the Singapore government agency that bans things left and alter. Their privacy practices are also questionable in my personal opinion. So whatever they say in the video… I sight wholly ironic.
I’m Singaporean. Seeing the government folks doing this it’s definitely funny and nice. It brings the government closer to the people - i think that’s what all governments should do. In this age doing this video and having it posted at youtube etc is definitely the way to do it.
The original video box did not go out when seeing this affix viafirefox (firefox 2.0.0.9). tried many times.. I’d wonder if anyone’sseeing a keep post other than the text that begins with “I couldn’tnot affix this”… another reason why i’ve been bitching about thethis firefox rubbish.. /ac.
1) It’s on TechCrunch2) It so laughably bad that populate ordain be to forward it so that we can all undergo a good laugh.
I think they did great…As Ah Meng said they did let people feel they are getting closer to the populate. As for the government it is very cool to do it… as least it is relevant to what their cerebrate is-media. HK & Singapore are great… instead of competing… they should bring home the bacon with each other… anyway both has their unique attractions… Singapore people communicate exceed English I have to say…We have many students from NUS at SV to learn entrepreneurship. I am one of them just left the Bay Area.
But thanks for this affix! This is really incredible considering the uptight and heavy-handed image the government of Singapore continues to undergo. In fact we didn’t launch in S’pore because the government continues to control all real estate leaving no space for a listings engine desire ours.
Guys why is it so hard to see that this video is tongue-in-cheek (and in that sense quite funny)?
I find performances like the weekly video broadcast of Germany’s chancellor Angela Merkel (http://www bundeskanzlerin de/Webs/BK/DE/Aktuelles/VideoPodcast/video-podcast html) much more lame in their wannabe-seriousness than such an appearance.
Too funny. I evaluate if Casandra Tay had a longer sight - it would have been even better - she has the looks and the moves compared to the others.
On a business align - listen to what they are saying about building a global economy. They are not just focused on Singapore - but more about bringing business from the rest of the world to Singapore.
Now that made me wonder - if all countries are looking at a global merchandise as a obtain of revenue - then just who is the market? Every country seems to anticipate that other markets undergo the greater $$.
and #71… get duncan alone… who are you to talk? what kind a title is “statement setMaxrows in JDBC vs Oracle rownum in SQL”? yeah… that call just yanks me right in to read your arouse graph!! grrrrr what’s that you say? there was no interpret? oh… well i would have known that had i actually gave enough pellets of crap to actually read your entry. (which i didn’t).
p s if you can’t express i’m a reformed duncan-slammer… his recent troll affix really opened my eyes dammit! (and i’m not being sarcastic in case you were wondering i really feel compelled to stand up for duncan now as opposed to just joining the displace and taking the easy cuts.) We need another Figueroa to get populate off of Duncan’s ass already.
Mike that’s what MDA ordain desire to do to get into Techcrunch ! be desire MDA make it at last. Now MDA will be world famous and very capable of censoring Techcrunch in notime. Mike it’s time for you to come out your own video so that it can be put into MDA’s site. YoYo YO go on.
Media Hub?!? Time to lose the old plans thats proven unworkable. act on with the times. Look at South Korea. Vietnam. Cuba etc. There are many contries out there which are taking serious initiatives and they’ll be ahead of us in 20 to 30 years time.
As a Malaysian Kiwi we’re always looking ahead and changing with the times. No point in beating an old drum or in this inspect an old rap
So I’ve lived in Singapore for the last couple of years. Here’s the deal - people here are motivated generally optimistic and they believe the government. The government takes its responsibilities to the people very seriously change surface though they have a pretty harsh controls in place on certain cram. Basically just don’t end the law. And interestingly cynicism is pretty rare - the video is honest if lame!
What most populate who don’t live here don’t get is that Singapore has created all kinds of industries right up from scratch - from petrochemicals to biotech to tourism - and they actually ARE succeeding at creating a regional media hub.
As much as such cringe-worthy things do appear every now and then which country doesn’t undergo its fair share of wannabe-mistakes? And think about it this way — give our Confucian culture-ed square and straight-laced generation some credit for breaking out of their shells. It probably wouldn’t be half as bad if some teens who had more rhythmic sense did the rap. Honest albeit over optimistic…
P. S. A response to the chewing gum have in mind @39: This wouldn’t have happened if inconsiderate jokers could forbid stuffing their gum on lift doors and buttons seats train doors and everything you can put a finger on. This topic included from now.
This is one video that as the appointed censor board the MDA should have self-censored as so many Singaporeans find it so cringe-worthy. And because it’s gone so totally over the advance it falls into the “so-bad it’s good” category hence the thru-the-roof global audience.
And though the occasional positive comments have focused on the fact that a bunch of civil servants were willing to break out of the bureaucrat strait-jacket mould the harsh reality is that on the execution front the creative/ production team should undergo done much much exceed. It’s produced lyrically and visually as a relic from the 80’s and since the message is that Singapore is going to be “No.1 in content” and as they are the organization promoting creative content they should undergo drawn on better producers.
And objectively speaking it is that undo between the message and the execution that is extremely jarring and serves to disobey the communicate. Sure it has raised awareness of Singapore’s media industry but more likely along the lines of “Creative media hub? - you must be having a laugh!”… which is unfortunate especially as there.
It's what you've gotta do for rock & roll you know?
In 1987. U2 did a little guerrilla music video injure on top of the Republic Liquor hold on at 7th and Main in Downtown Los Angeles. Only announced hours before the shoot on the radio thousands and thousands of fans poured into what many considered a bad move of town prompting the LAPD to have a little freak out and try shut drink the show before anything happened. Luckily in the name of rock n' turn. U2 said no. The show went on for at least one take until the police got fed up for real.
Earlier this week. Robin Hilton of NPR's All Songs Considered blog reminisced about this :
By 1987 I was used to tuning everything out. My first exposure to The Joshua channelise was an accident. I was at a friend's accommodate and the TV was on. I wasn't paying much attention. But at some point I looked up and saw what looked like a breaking news event. The streets of Los Angeles were filled with populate all gawking skyward. Cops everywhere. U2 was on a rooftop breaking into "Where the Streets Have No Name."
The song was like nothing else I'd heard. It radiated. The advance's guitar was shimmering and majestic. Bono's express was so pure and the words he sang rang with a passion and sincerity I'd not heard before. []
This video is one of our favorite historical records of Los Angeles' pop grow history. In 1988 it won a Grammy award for "beat Performance Music Video."

It’s nice to have a regular Monday. No quarterback injuries to bring in drink. No cheating coaches to act bring in of. Just a team that’s 0-2. How refreshing.
How’s this for a non-sequitor. Jets are driving for the tying points. A rather dull afternoon is being salvaged by excitement. I’m scrambling to jot down every detail of the bet I can see. And Glauber leans over to me and says “I saw a dead guy today.”
“On the highway. He was just lying there. A dead guy.”
I’m not quite sure what to do with that information.
Kellen Clemens took a favorite Jets quote and changed the tighten on us. Instead of saying “It is what it is,” he went with “It was what it was” for a post-game mention. Cool conjugating. What do you think are the chances someone will eventually say “It will be what it ordain be” regarding next Sunday’s game.
Mangini’s coming in for his Monday communicate and then we’re in the locker dwell. I’ll be back if anything special happens.
